WHAT INTERNISHIP IS
The curricular internship, introduced with D.M. 142/1998, represents a moment of alternation between study and work which takes place as part of the training processes and has the aim of facilitating the student's professional choices, promoting direct knowledge of the professional world.
The internship is an experience with orientation purposes, because it provides the opportunity for direct knowledge of the professional reality, and also with training purposes, because it aims to deepen and broaden the knowledge acquired during the course of studies.
REGULATIONS FOR INTERNSHIP
The University of Naples Federico II, promoting internship relationships, insures its interns against possible accidents and for civil liability. The internship does not constitute an employment relationship and does not entail remuneration rights or expense reimbursements for the interns.
To consult the legal regulations governing the matter, see:
NORMATIVA DELLE ATTIVITÀ DI TIROCINIO (regulations of internship activities - download here);
The page dedicated to internships on the university website is:
(http://www.unina.it/didattica/tirocini-studenti).
The aforementioned regulations are integrated in the regulations for internships of the Department of Architecture.
DURATION OF INTERNSHIP AND EXTENSION
The ARCHER Degree Program includes a mandatory curricular training internship in the second year consisting of 100 hours of activity for 4 CFU/ECTS to be carried out in a period that cannot be shorter than four months. Since the academic year 2024-2025 this duration will be reduced to 75 hours of activity for 3 CFU/ECTS to be carried out in a period that cannot be shorter than three months.
During the month of August and the Christmas and Easter holidays, periods which for many public and private offices involve a clear slowdown in activities and a greater number of national non-working days, the actual working days will have to be considered. The internship cannot be longer than one year.
If for proven reasons the planned activities are not completed within the time initially indicated, the request for extension must be submitted to the ARCHER Internship Commission, strictly before the due date of the internship.
The internship ends when the planned hours of activity have been completed, possibly even before the established deadline, provided that at least one month has to have passed since the start. Students are recommended to indicate convenient internship periods to avoid, when it is possible, the need to request extensions.
ARCHER INTERNSHIP COMMISSION
The ARCHER Didactic Coordination Commission, during its meeting on 13 February 2023, unanimously decided to establish an Internship Commission with the following tasks:
- evaluate internship activation proposals;
- authorize extensions;
- ensure the effective and correct development of the internship through a final interview with the students who have completed the period of activity.
The ARCHER internship commission consists of:
- Andrea Pane (coordinator) (https://www.docenti.unina.it/andrea.pane);
- Adele Picone (https://www.docenti.unina.it/adelina.picone);
- Leopoldo Repola (https://www.docenti.unina.it/leopoldo.repola).
It is possible to contact the ARCHER internship commission using the following link to enter the dedicated channel on Microsoft Teams: ARCHER - Internship | Generale | Microsoft Teams
The student is required to create a folder named with his surname_name, in which the proposal of internship and the following documentation produced at the end of the internship have to be uploaded.
TYPOLOGIES OF INTERNSHIP
The student can choose among the following typologies of internship:
- Intramoenia internship to be carried out at the facilities of the University of Naples Federico II.
For the Intramoenia internship there is one tutor only, who will be teaching at the ARCHER Degree Program or a teacher at the University which had formulated the training project and which hosts the intern.
- Extramoenia internship to be carried out at Institutions and Public Offices affiliated with the University of Naples Federico II, such as Municipalities and Soprintendenze, or at private agencies, such as professional and service firms and companies, businesses or associations affiliated with the University of Naples Federico II.
The formulation of a training project, adequate for the number of CFU/ECTS (4) (3 from the 2024/25 academic year) established for the ARCHER Degree Program and the corresponding hours of work (100) (75 from the academic year 2024/25), is required for the Extramoenia internship.
The choice of two tutors is required for the Extramoenia internship: one has to be internal to the University of Naples Federico II (who will be identified at the moment of the internship activation proposal, within the first meeting with the ARCHER Internship Commission) and one has to be internal to the hosting structure.
- Erasmus + Traineeship which takes place abroad, following selection and financing calls managed by the University.
See the page dedicated to Erasmus programs on the University website:
(http://www.unina.it/didattica/opportunita-studenti/erasmus/programma)
INTRAMOENIA INTERNSHIP
The Intramoenia internship takes place at a facility of the University of Naples Federico II (Departments, Interdepartmental Centers, Central Administration Offices, etc.).
To activate the Intramoenia internship, the student:
- submits the MODULO DEL PROGETTO FORMATIVO (training project form - download here) to the tutor for the definition of the topics and for signature;
- submits the form signed by the tutor to the ARCHER Internship Commission for approval, integrated by a more extensive report (at least one folder) in which the roles that the candidate will have to carry out are detailed. The report has to be signed by both the candidate and the tutor.
The intramoenia internship is defined through the paper form and does NOT involve the use of the telematic procedure.
Once the internship has started, the student writes down the activities in the LIBRETTO DEL TIROCINIO INTRAMOENIA (intramoenia internship booklet - download here) which will be progressively filled in and signed by the student and the tutor.
THE RESEARCH OPEN LIST (https://www.diarc.unina.it/openlist-ricerca-diarc/) is a selection of research activities by university professors to which students of the DiARC Degree Programs can possibly refer for their Intramoenia curricular internship.
For university professors only: professors who are willing to include their research activity in the Research Open List have to complete:
- the MODULO RICHIESTA ACCREDITAMENTO TIROCINI INTRAMOENIA (intramoenia internship accreditation request form- download here) and send it to the Commissione Tirocini di Dipartimento(Department Internship Commission) using the following webmail address:

IF THE HOSTING ORGANIZATION IS NOT PRESENT IN THE LIST OF AFFILIATED ORGANIZATIONS AND IN ORDER TO STIPULATE NEW INTERNSHIP AGREEMENTS,
the student, before starting the online procedure, can propose the agreement with a new organization using the following forms:
MODULO STIPULA CONVENZIONE TIROCINIO ITALIA (Drafting internship agreement Italy form - download here);
MODULO STIPULA CONVENZIONE TIROCINIO EUROPA (Drafting internship agreement Europe form - download here);
MODULO STIPULA CONVENZIONE TIROCINIO EXTRA-UE (Drafting internship agreement Extra-UE form - download here);
This form has to be completed in two copies by the hosting organization which requests to stipulate the Internship Agreement, and has to be stamped and signed strictly in original by the legal representative of the hosting organization (unless there is an authorized delegation with an official document attached to the documentation sent to the University).
The forms have to be presented to the ARCHER Internship Commission, which authorizes the Agreement.

- Ordine degli Architetti, Pianificatori, Paesaggisti e Conservatori della Provincia di Salerno;
- Ordine degli Architetti, Pianificatori, Paesaggisti e Conservatori della Provincia di Avellino;
- Ordine degli Architetti, Pianificatori, Paesaggisti e Conservatori della Provincia di Benevento.
Professionals registered with one of these organizations – as individuals, individual professionals, and not as companies between professionals or associations (e.g. associated firms) – can host interns with no need to sign a specific agreement.
If the host identified by the student is a freelancer registered with one of the organizations listed above, the student will indicate in the form the relevant Ordine as the “Soggetto Ospitante” (Hosting organization) and the professional as the “Tutor aziendale” (Company Tutor). In the field: “indirizzo di svolgimento del tirocinio se diverso dalla sede legale” (address of the internship if different from the registered office), the name and surname of the architect and the address of the studio have to written.
IF AND WHEN THE INTERNSHIP AGREEMENT HAS A POSITIVE OUTCOME, PROCEED WITH STEP 2.
IF THE HOSTING ORGANIZATION IS ALREADY PRESENT IN THE LIST OF AFFILIATED ORGANIZATIONS (all_5) PROCEED WITH STEP 2.
After having identified the affiliated host, the student has to:
- contact the host, who fills in, signs and stamps the MODULO DI PROPOSTA TIROCINIO (internship proposal form - download here);
- submit the completed internship proposal form, signed and stamped by the host, to the ARCHER Internship Commission to receive preliminary approval.
The form has to be combined with a more extensive report (at least one folder), where the student indicates the roles he or she will carry out at the hosting organization, signed by both the student and the hosting organization.
The student presents the internship proposal form only after having already identified a teacher as university tutor, who validates the proposal with signature.
If the university tutor is not indicated in the form, the ARCHER Internship Commission will NOT carry out the automatic assignment and the proposal will be rejected;
- after having received the preliminary consent of the ARCHER Internship Commission, access the electronic procedure (enter your institutional email credentials) and fill the form that replaces the paper-training project.
The request with an electronic procedure CANNOT be processed by the system IF part of the requested data is MISSING.
If there are difficulties in entering the online procedure, the student has to reset the password (the password cannot contain name and/or surname);
TO COMPLETE THE EXTRAMOENIA TRAINING PROJECT, ALSO IN ENGLISH, CLICK HERE (http://softwaresso.unina.it/tirocini.html) AND ENTER YOUR INSTITUTIONAL STUDENT EMAIL USER AND PASSWORD;
- enter all the data and “salva” (save) the training project form. The procedure automatically sends the document in digital format to the university tutor. Having verified that the content is consistent with what had been previously established, the professor accepts it by signing it digitally;
- check in the “verifica tirocini” (internship verification) section of the procedure that the professor has taken charge of the request. In the “documenti prodotti” (produced documents) section you will find the training project signed by the tutor in Word format.
The training project has to be downloaded and printed in three copies.
The three copies have to be signed and stamped by the host (stamp with the name of the host) and promptly delivered to:
dott. Fausto Felici, Ufficio di Area Didattica di Architettura (ex Presidenza, Palazzo Gravina,Via Monteoliveto 3)
